Celebrating Bishop 20

Hi everyone! As I have mentioned before, I like positions in which the person's own body becomes part of the bondage to some extend. For instance, with the use of the Steel device, or my own Frog chair, where the ankles and wrists are locked in place, but it because of the position of the arms that the model can only sit with her knees wide apart. Another way to contribute to the bondage is just by the weight of the body, the most prominent example being that of standing impaled, of course, but I would also point to the pit prison cells, to deep and wide to jump or climb out of.

But I have chosen this piece by Bishop because of this combination of body weight and impalement. Granted: the execution is far from top notch, it certainly isn't one of his most beautiful drawings, but I love the ingenuity of the device. It is of course all about the angle, which causes the body to simply fall back right onto it. The impalement is not apparent, but it is mentioned in the text, and there is simply no way she will be able to lift herself off of it. Wonder full stuff!

Now, to be fair, I have borrowed this idea somewhat for the cover of my book The Art of bondage.

But after I had finished the cover, I realized that it would physically be totally impossible for someone to hang in there like that, because of the position of the wrists. I would have to make clear that these wrist holes were adapted.

Luckily, I still had some time left before this thing had to go to the printer (ah, the good old days: ink on dead trees), and I decided to make another drawing in which I also showed one unoccupied device, this time with sloping holes for the wrists.
