Inspiration

CP 0170 08-06-2018 Hello everyone! As you may know, I am a member of Deviant Art. One of the things I like most about that is the way in which you will get inspired by the work of others. And the funny thing about inspiration is: these others can be seasoned artists, making the most beautiful works, or total beginners, whose execution might still be a little off, but who offer great ideas nevertheless. I have both experiences on a regular basis, and that's what makes this site so great.

Also, lately, I have found a bit of a challenge there. In my career, I have been working in a multitude of styles. Starting out in pencil, and after a brief period with color pencils, I began working in a pen and ink style. Going back to color again, I started using markers. And after that, I finally mastered Photoshop, step by step, first in the ancient versions 5.0 and 6.0, and now I'm working with Adobe Photoshop CC 2018.

Now, for the last ten to fifteen years or so, the art world has been taken by storm by a new technique. The original name was Poser I believe, and I think there may be other programs which work in the same way. The idea is that you aren't actually drawing but rather importing shapes and forms (and props and backgrounds etc.) and use those to compose your images.
I have to say that like in any technique, some of those works I like, others a little less.

There is, for instance, this person who is very good at it, I think. The work looks quite realistic, and he or she makes great use of an effect that would be very hard for me to achieve, namely the presentation of the situation from a multitude of angles. I really love that; the only problem I have here is that in contrast with that variety, the same bondage pose is used over and over again in every single drawing. So I wonder; is that due to the technique, is it impossible to slightly change poses when you have imported or constructed an image?

And that's where the challenge comes in. I start to wonder if in my ripe old age I should try my hand at this myself, just because I'm so curious as to what is and is not in it.

Also because there is another artist whose work is much less realistic and much more exaggerated and over the top, but seemingly with more of a personal fingerprint.

All in all, I do find the topic very interesting, and if I can find the time I would really like to look into it. Perhaps only to find that it would take years of practice to find myself in the mear shadow of the two artists mentioned above :)
