Different sorts of choices

Sturdy and powerless sCP8-25-2014
A few days ago, I was talking about the composition of a drawing, and the choises one has to make to come to a satisfying result. In the various stages of this drawing, I have enlarged the lower body of the model, to give her a more powerful look, which, of course would make the contrast with her helplesnes even more poignant.

So that was a choice in the development and rendering of the figure.
Now, as I was thinking about a suitable background, a second choice arose: the one between two, almost equally satisfying solutions. In the one with the simple circle, all the attention is focused on the contrast between her apparent strength and impotence, as mentioned above. But I decided to experiment a bit more, and although I was quite taken with the first one, I think the second rendition ads another layer to design, making her look, despite her powerful appearance,
not only helpless but also rather small and insignificant, due to the larger space she's now in.

Of course, this blog only functions as an excuse to show you the first one as well!
