Celebrating Bishop 11

This time, I wanted to high light one of Bishop's sequences: a collection of drawings that all hold together, showing the bondage in process. For all my life I have been convinced that he had done this many times, but after going through his whole body of work, it turns out he has only done it twice (maybe a few more consisting of just two drawings) It goes to show how your mind and especially your memory can play tricks on you. Anyway, I have always been fascinated by these.

I used to look at the last drawing first, and then start at the beginning again, to see how that final result had been reached. I liked the way in which he used different perspectives, each perfectly suited for a view of the bondage in question. The progressive helplessness, and the fact that is was clearly about one specific woman, getting deeper and deeper in trouble, it works so much stronger than a single piece.
As you all know, my work was heavily influenced by his, and of course, I also had to try my fifteen or sixteen year old hand at this, with this result.

Oh well, it did make me want to go on and do one better, at least.
